BIRD NEST REMOVAL · SOUTH FLORIDA

Bird Nest Removal

If you have a problem with a bird's nest in your chimney, I can help.

WHEN BIRDS NEST

Summer in South Florida

Especially in the summer, birds are drawn to the chimney and may build a nest. Sometimes you need dead birds removed from the fireplace, other times there's just a nest in the chimney.

What I do

I remove bird nests humanely. If a nest is occupied, I work around the timing so birds and chicks aren't harmed. If you've got a dead bird in the fireplace, I'll handle that too — it's part of the job.

Why summer is peak

South Florida birds nest from spring into late summer. A warm, dark vertical shaft looks a lot like the inside of a hollow tree. If your chimney has been left open — no cap, no damper at the top — it's an attractive site. Most calls about active nests come in the warmer months.

HOW TO KEEP BIRDS OUT

Cap the chimney

A chimney cap or a flue-top damper at the top of the chimney prevents birds from nesting in the first place. It's the single best fix.

Chimney cap — keeps birds out

A chimney cap on top of the flue keeps birds out. It also stops squirrels, raccoons, water, and falling debris from getting in while still venting smoke. Install it once and forget about birds in the chimney.

Flue-top damper — alternative

A flue-top damper seals the chimney shut when the fireplace isn't in use. It keeps birds out and stops conditioned air from leaking up the flue between fires. It's the other option worth knowing about.
